Shehbaz thanks Trump for acknowledging Pakistan’s role in terror war

Says we will continue our close partnership with the US for regional peace.

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday thanked US President Donald Trump for recognizing Pakistan’s efforts in cooperation against terrorism.

In a statement issued on social media site X, Prime Minister Sharif said that Trump acknowledged Pakistan’s role in counter-terrorism efforts in Afghanistan. We thank President Trump for recognizing and appreciating Pakistan’s role and support in counter-terrorism efforts in Afghanistan.

It may be mentioned here that the US president in his address to Congress announced that a terrorist involved in killing US servicemen in an attack near Kabul airport in 2021 had been arrested and extradited. He thanked Pakistan for helping the arrest of what he said top terrorist.

Shehbaz Sharif said that Trump appreciated Pakistan’s role in the wake of the arrest of ISIS commander Sharifullah, who is a citizen of Afghanistan and a wanted terrorist. Pakistan has always played an important role in counterterrorism efforts aimed at preventing terrorists and militant groups from providing safe havens.

“We are determined to combat terrorism in all its forms and manifestations and Pakistan has made great sacrifices in this endeavour, including the loss of lives of more than 80,000 of our brave soldiers and civilians,” he said.”

“We will continue our close partnership with the US for regional peace and stability,” he added.
