UNITED NATIONS: At a meeting of the United Nations Security Council, Pakistan has called for global action against weapons seized by terrorist groups.

In the meeting, Pakistan expressed deep concern over the acquisition and use of modern and lethal illegal weapons by terrorist groups, including the banned Tehreek Taliban Pakistan the so-called Baloch Liberation Army and Majeed Brigade in Balochistan.

Pakistan’s Consular Syed Atif Raza said that terrorist groups had billions of dollars worth of illegal weapons left in Afghanistan, which were being used against Pakistan’s citizens and armed forces.

He also said in his statement that terrorist organizations also received foreign aid and financial support from a rival country. He said international partners should recover the weapons stockpile left in Afghanistan by US and NATO forces.

Consular Syed Atif Raza further said that access to these weapons by terrorist groups should be stopped and effective steps should be taken to close the black market of illegal weapons.

It may be mentioned here that after the withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan in 2021, terrorists have increased their activities across the border in Balochistan and Khyber Pakthunkhwa provinces of Pakistan. Despite calls from Pakistan, the interim government in Kabul has failed to stop the terror groups from using its soil against Pakistan.
