PESHAWAR: The Pakistan–Afghanistan Torkham border has remained closed for the seventh consecutive day, bringing cross-border trade and pedestrian movement to a complete halt.
The closure, prompted by escalating border tensions, has caused long queues of cargo trucks to stretch along the Torkham Highway. Perishable goods stored in these vehicles have begun to spoil, raising alarm among traders and transporters.
Business representatives have warned that continued delays in reopening the border could lead to significant financial losses as more goods risk being damaged.
Traders said that the prolonged shutdown has led to a sharp increase in food prices on both sides of the border, affecting local communities and ordinary citizens.
Traders and transporters have appealed to both governments to resolve their differences through meaningful dialogue, emphasizing that sustained border tensions serve the interests of neither country.
