Two Pakistanis Selected for China’s Human Spaceflight Program
ISLAMABAD: In a major milestone for Pakistan’s space ambitions, China has selected two Pakistani candidates for its human spaceflight program, with both individuals departing for training in China.
According to Chinese state media reports, the selected candidates include Khurram Daud and Muhammad Zeeshan. Both will undergo rigorous training as part of China’s astronaut program.
This development marks a significant step forward in Pakistan’s journey in space exploration, placing the country among a limited group of nations actively participating in human spaceflight initiatives.
Pakistan is preparing to take part in a future mission aboard the China Space Station, expected by the end of 2026. Under this mission, a Pakistani astronaut is likely to serve as a payload specialist during the Shenzhou mission.
During the mission, the astronaut will conduct a range of experiments in microgravity, covering key scientific fields such as material science, fluid physics, life sciences, and biotechnology. The outcomes of these experiments are expected to contribute to advancements in climate resilience, food security, and industrial innovation.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has welcomed the development, praising SUPARCO for its progress in deep space research and highlighting the strong and enduring partnership between Pakistan and China.
Officials say Pakistan’s inclusion in the human spaceflight mission reflects the growing strategic cooperation between the two countries and opens new avenues for scientific and technological collaboration.
