U.S. imposes sanctions on four female judges of world criminal court

WASHINGTON: The Trump administration has imposed sanctions on four female judges of the International Criminal Court (ICC).

The move comes in response to the ICC’s issuance of an arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The report indicates that the decision by the ICC to open a case concerning alleged war crimes committed by U.S. forces in Afghanistan also contributed to the imposition of these sanctions.

The judges targeted by the sanctions include: Judge Bettina Hoyler from Slovenia, Judge Reine Alapini-Gansou from Benin.

These two judges were part of the judicial panel involved in proceedings that led to the issuance of arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu.

Judge Luz del Carmen Ibáñez Carranza from Peru and Judge Solomy Balungi Bossa from Uganda.

These judges played a role in authorizing investigations into alleged war crimes committed by U.S. forces during the war in Afghanistan. They have also been involved in cases related to Israel.

This development underscores the ongoing tension between the United States and the ICC, especially regarding the Court’s jurisdiction over U.S. and allied officials.
