UNITED NATIONS: United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has asked Israel to withdraw its recent measure declaring certain lands in the West Bank as state property, calling it “illegal” and a threat to regional stability.
On Sunday, the Israeli government approved a policy allowing parts of the occupied West Bank to be registered as state-owned land.
The Israeli Foreign Ministry stated the move aims to resolve legal disputes over land ownership transparently. However, the decision has drawn widespread international condemnation.
Pakistan strongly criticized the move, stating that it violates international law and UN Security Council and General Assembly resolutions. The Foreign Office spokesperson urged the global community to reject the provocative measure and hold Israel accountable.
The European Union also demanded that Israel reverse the decision. EU spokesperson Anwar El Anuni said the annexation is illegal under international law and would escalate tensions in the region.
Several Arab countries, including Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Qatar, and Jordan, have described the measure as a threat to peace efforts. Jordan’s King Abdullah II warned that such actions could further destabilize the region.
