UN revives deployment of Pakistan police in peace missions

UN chief and interior minister also agree to increase number of Pakistani military personnel in peacekeeping missions.

NEW YORK: The deployment of Pakistani police officers in UN peace missions will be revived after many years.

In the initial phase, 128 Pakistani police officers will soon be able to go to the UN and get deployment.

The decision was taken at a meeting of Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi with United Nations Secretary General António Guterres at the UN headquarters in New York.

The two sides also discussed the establishment of a unit of the United Nations Counter-Terrorism Force.

Mr Naqvi referred to the sacrifices rendered by Pakistan in the war on terrorism and said his country would help in the establishment of the unit.

Speaking on the occasion, the UN chief expressed his best wishes for people and government of Pakistan.

The two sides also agreed to increase the number of Pakistani military personnel in the UN peacekeeping missions.
