Verdict in 190m pound corruption case delayed again

RAWALPINDI: An accountability court here on Monday again delayed the announcement of verdict in the 190 million pound corruption case against Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi.

The accountability court had reserved the verdict on December 18 and since then has delayed its announcement for the third time.

The accountability court had informed both the sides that the verdict would be announced in Adiala jail on Monday. Judge Javed Nasir Rana today said that he waited in the courtroom since 8am but Imran Khan did not turn up. It has been learnt that Imran was of the view that he would not come to the courtroom untill someone from his family was also in attendance.

The judge later left the premises saying that the verdict would now be announced on January 17.

The couple was indicted by the accountability court on February 27, 2024 in the corruption case.

In the corruption case, NAB had alleged that the PTI government struck a deal with property tycoon Malik Riaz that caused a loss of $239m to the national exchequer.

Imran and Bushra Bibi allegedly received billions of rupees and a large swath of land from Bahria Town after legalising Rs50 billion that was returned by the UK during the previous PTI government.
