Haniyeh’s assassination serious violation of Iran’s sovereignty: KSA

OIC executive committee meeting declares Israel responsible for assassination of Ismail Haniyeh.

JEDDAH: Deputy Foreign Minister for Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia Waleed Al-Khuraji has said that the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh was serious violation of the sovereignty of Iran.

He was speaking at the extraordinary meeting of the executive committee of OIC in Jeddah. The meeting was called to discuss the current situation arising out of the assassination of the Hamas leader and its implications for the fragile Middle East peace.

In the declaration at the end of the session, the leaders from the Islamic countries  declared Israel responsible for assassination of Ismail Haniyeh.

The Saudi Deputy foreign minister on the occasion said that his country and OIC totally reject the intervention in the internal affairs of any country by the West and Israel and said that  the current situation in Middle East would further worsen after the killing of the Hamas leader.

It may be noted that Iran has openly accused Israel of planning and executing the assassination of the Hamas leader in Tehran where he was a guest at the oath-taking ceremony of the new President.

Addressing the OIC session, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Pakistan Ishaq Dar said that the assassination of the Hamas leader would leave grave and far-reaching consequences for Middle East peace in future.

“Make no mistake, if today it is Iran, tomorrow it could be another OIC country facing a similar act of international terrorism, extra-territorial killing on its soil, and/or cold-blooded violation of its sovereignty and territorial integrity.”

Mr Dar said that condemnation alone was not enough to stop and hold Israel accountable. It has not worked in the past and there is no reason to expect a different outcome this time.

He said the Muslim countries need unwavering political will, complete unity, and concrete steps to effectively address the situation at hand.
