MUZAFFARABAD: The Azad Jammu and Kashmir Election Commission (AJKEC) has sought the names of political parties for the formation of voter verification committees for the preparation of electoral rolls of refugees in Pakistan.
It is also a legal requirement for the refugees residing in Pakistan to have documentary proof of AJ&K state subject along with the identity card for registration of votes. However, those who do not have any documentary evidence will be given the opportunity to register to vote to exercise their right to vote.
Section 21 of the Elections Act 2020 by the AJ&K Election Commission for voter registration of such persons in every district of Pakistan for the category of “Jammu” at the tehsil level and for the category of “Kashmir Valley” at the district level, while, a voter verification committee will be formed.
According to the spokesperson of the Election Commission, the names of such persons will be entered in the electoral rolls of the respective categories on the verification of the Voter Verification Committee. Therefore, for this purpose, two representatives will have to be nominated for the formation of committees for “Jammu” and one for “Kashmir Valley”.
The AJ&K Election Commission has asked all political parties in the state to send their nominations to the commission within five days so that the Election Commission can form a voter verification committee comprising these representatives.
