PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister has directed authorities to complete all monsoon-related preparations in a timely manner, warning that delays could lead to loss of lives and damage to infrastructure.
Chairing a meeting on the monsoon contingency plan, the chief minister reviewed provincial and district-level arrangements and instructed officials to ensure full readiness ahead of the rainy season.
He emphasized that early planning and coordination across departments are essential to minimize risks during heavy rains and flooding.
The chief minister also ordered the release of necessary funds to strengthen preparedness efforts and ensure that all relevant departments remain fully equipped.
He directed that District Emergency Operation Centers remain functional across all districts with a 24-hour duty roster in place. Continuous monitoring of glacier lakes, rivers, and rainfall patterns was also instructed.
A deadline of May 30 was set for the completion of cleaning work in drainage systems, including nullahs, stormwater channels, culverts, and sewerage lines.
Officials informed the meeting that the majority of drainage cleaning targets have already been achieved, while anti-encroachment operations are continuing in different areas.
Rescue 1122 briefed the meeting that the monsoon contingency plan has been finalized and water rescue points are being established. The chief minister directed that all rescue equipment, boats, and water pumps be fully operational and verified by June 15.
He also instructed the Communications and Works Department to ensure immediate road restoration and uninterrupted traffic flow during any emergency situation, stating that delays in response would not be tolerated.
