ISLAMABAD: Superintendent of Police (SP) Industrial Area Islamabad Adeel Akbar, who allegedly died by suicide in Islamabad on Thursday, had been battling depression and was under psychiatric treatment.
SP Adeel had been consulting a psychiatrist and underwent his last medical examination about ten days ago. He was reportedly struggling with severe depression linked to his professional career.
Sources said the police officer had recently visited his psychiatrist along with his wife and daughter. It was also confirmed that he had been diagnosed with dengue fever a day before the tragic incident.
During his last consultation, SP Adeel expressed fatigue and frustration with his professional duties. The doctor had advised him to continue medication regularly and avoid keeping a firearm in his possession. He was also instructed to manage his routine calmly and focus on rest.
Authorities confirmed that SP Adeel Akbar’s post-mortem examination was conducted at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS). The medical report indicated that he was struck by a single bullet fired from the front.
The tragic incident has sparked conversations about mental health challenges among law enforcement officials, with calls for improved psychological support within the police force.
