Hindu community celebrates Holi today

President Asif Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif congratulate all those celebrating this festival.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Hundu community celebrates their annual festival of colors today.

On this occasion, they are holding different functions which are also joined by people of other communities.

This ancient tradition marks the end of winter and honors the triumph of good over evil. Celebrants light bonfires, throw colorful powder called gulal, eat sweets, and dance to traditional folk music.

In his statement on the occasion, President Zardari congratulated the Hindu community and wished them well. He said the festival of Holi is symbolic of the triumph of good over evil.

He said Constitution of Pakistan guarantees religious freedom to all religions. He said the Hindu community have always played an important role in the development of the country.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif while extending congratulations to the Hindu community said Pakistan is proud of its multi-ethnic, multi-lingual, multi-cultural and multi-religious characteristics.
