NEW YORK: Ambassadors from OIC member countries met the United Nations Secretary General here and stressed the importance of timely implementing the resolution passed by the United Nations to combat Islamophobia.
The Core Group of OIC Permanent Representatives on Islamophobia was led by Pakistan’s permanent representative Ambassador Munir Akram at the meeting with Antonio Guterres at the UN headquarters.
The meeting also discussed the appointment of a special envoy on combating Islamophobia.
The ambassadors from the OIC member countries also presented detailed proposals for a comprehensive Action Plan to address and counter Islamophobia globally.
The meeting was a follow-up on the implementation of Resolution 78/264, titled “Measures to Combat Islamophobia.”
Islamic countries as well as international rights organizations have been raising voice against rising Islamophobia in the West following incidents in which Muslims were targetted by extremist elements in different countries.
