ISLAMABAD: Jamaat-e-Islami staged a large protest at Aabpara Chowk in Islamabad against rising inflation and the soaring prices of petroleum products.

Thousands of people joined the demonstration, chanting slogans against the government and demanding a reduction in fuel prices.

Addressing the gathering, JI chief Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman criticized the government for its “anti-people policies” and warned that the party’s nationwide movement had begun. He claimed that petrol prices include a 120-rupee levy and 50-rupee taxes per liter, and accused the government of serving international financial institutions while benefiting the energy mafia at the expense of ordinary citizens.

Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman also announced plans for a nationwide strike, promising that markets across Pakistan would shut down. He revealed that Jamaat-e-Islami would file a petition in the Constitutional Court on May 18 against the petroleum levy and vowed to accompany citizens in protests across the country, including trips to Chitral, Dera Ismail Khan, and Balochistan.

The party also criticized opposition parties for empowering energy companies and called out government leaders for failing to manage the education sector and the economy. Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman said the current administration bears responsibility for Pakistan’s mounting financial and social crises.
