The biographical film Michael, based on the life of music icon Michael Jackson, has become the highest-grossing biographical film of all time after surpassing the global box office earnings of Oppenheimer.
Directed by Antoine Fuqua, the film has earned more than $977.4 million worldwide since its release on April 24, overtaking Oppenheimer, which grossed $975.8 million globally.
The film stars Jaafar Jackson, Michael Jackson’s nephew, in the lead role and was released by Lionsgate.
According to industry reports, Michael added $9.2 million to its worldwide total over the latest weekend, bringing its cumulative earnings to $977.4 million.
Box office analysts believe the film is on track to cross the $1 billion mark, which would make it only the second film of 2026 to achieve the milestone.
