KARACHI: Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will convene on May 17 (Sunday) to sight the moon of Zilhaj, which will determine the date of Eid ul Adha in Pakistan.
The meeting will take place at the Pakistan Meteorological Department in Karachi and will be chaired by Maulana Syed Muhammad Abdul Khabir Azad, the chairman of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee. Zonal and district committees will also hold parallel meetings at their respective headquarters across the country.
Following the deliberations and moon sighting reports, the final announcement regarding the beginning of Zilhaj and the date of Eid ul Adha will be officially made by the committee chairman.
Meanwhile, SUPARCO has predicted a strong possibility of the moon being sighted on May 17, suggesting that Eid ul Adha is likely to fall on May 27.
The meeting is a key annual event, as it officially marks the start of the Islamic month of Zilhaj and determines the timing of one of the most significant religious festivals in Pakistan.
