ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said that Pakistan’s nuclear programme will remain the country’s permanent defence asset for all times to come, adding that all national heroes who contributed to making Pakistan a nuclear power deserve the highest tribute.

Speaking at a federal cabinet meeting in Islamabad, the Prime Minister said the nation recently observed the anniversary of “Marka-e-Haq” with great unity and national enthusiasm, crediting the success to national cohesion and collective resolve.

He said Pakistan’s armed forces delivered a strong response to the enemy, which would be remembered for generations. He also noted that the upcoming 28th May (Youm-e-Takbeer) remains a historic reminder of Pakistan becoming a nuclear power.

Reiterating Pakistan’s stance, the Prime Minister said the country’s nuclear capability is purely for defensive purposes and not for aggression, which is why the world recognizes Pakistan as a responsible nuclear state.

Shehbaz Sharif paid tribute to scientists, political leadership, and institutions involved in the nuclear programme, stating that Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto laid its foundation while Nawaz Sharif brought it to completion.

He further said Pakistan must now focus on becoming an economic power, adding that the government is working day and night toward economic stability despite difficult global conditions.

The Prime Minister also paid tribute to those martyred in the fight against terrorism, including a railway employee who sacrificed his life, calling them true national heroes.

The cabinet session concluded with prayers for the martyrs of Pakistan.
