On Pakistan Day, Zardari, Shehbaz vow to ensure national progress

Military parade held at Awane Sadr instead of Parade Ground due to Ramaza.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Day celebrated across the country today and the annual military parade was held at a smaller scale in Awane Sadr instead of Parade Ground near Shakarparian due to Ramazan.

The day began with a cannon salute in the federal capital while a solemn ceremony of changing of guards was also held at the mausoleum of Allama Iqbal, the poet of the East.

President Asif Ali Zardari was  chief guest at the Pakistan Day parade, attended by foreign envoys, high civil and military officials.

Earlier, President Zardari and Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif greeted the nation on Pakistan Day.

The President said that the ‘brave armed forces’ are making great sacrifices in the defence of the motherland.

Prime Minister Sharif said that in one year his government put Pakistan’s economy on the path of sustainable development, with national unity, we can achieve economic prosperity.

The urged every Pakistani to rise above differences, reject division and negativity, and work together to build a prosperous, inclusive and just Pakistan.

He congratulated the entire nation and said that the same spirit that led to the creation of Pakistan can propel us toward a brighter tomorrow.

The Prime Minister said with the right policies, dedicated efforts, and national unity, we can achieve economic prosperity, uphold social justice, and secure our rightful place among the nations of the world.

He said this day stands as a defining moment in the history of South Asia’s Muslims.
