ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has stated that Pakistan is making every possible effort to facilitate another round of negotiations between Iran and the United States in Islamabad.

In an in-depth interview with a British newspaper, the Prime Minister emphasized that Pakistan continues to play a proactive and constructive role in promoting peace and stability in the region and expressed confidence and optimism regarding the second phase of these critical talks.

He said Pakistan is currently entering one of the most promising and brightest periods in its history and is being recognized on the international stage as an honest and credible mediator, a status that has earned the trust and confidence of global leadership.

PM Sharif expressed that, like the country’s 240 million citizens, he feels immense pride in being Pakistani. He also commended the instrumental roles played by National Security Chief Asim Munir and former Finance Minister Ishaq Dar in supporting and advancing the diplomatic process.

Responding to a question about Afghanistan, the Prime Minister stated that Pakistan’s primary and consistent demand has been that Afghan territory should not be used by any terrorist groups to conduct operations, highlighting the country’s continued focus on regional security.

Regarding tensions with India, PM Sharif noted that if former US President Donald Trump had not intervened, South Asia could have faced a significant catastrophe with far-reaching and extremely serious consequences.
