ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced a significant reduction in petroleum prices, slashing diesel by Rs135 per litre and petrol by Rs12 per litre
He said the government had pledged to pass on the benefit of declining global oil prices directly to the public.
In a televised address, the prime minister said that Pakistan had promised to ensure immediate relief to citizens whenever international fuel prices decreased. He added that the situation in the Middle East was now moving towards peace, with diplomatic talks replacing conflict.
PM Sharif expressed gratitude to the leadership of the United States and Iran for responding positively to the proposal for peace talks in the region. He said that countries that were previously on opposing sides are now engaging in dialogue, marking a positive shift.
He also praised Field Marshal Asim Munir and his team for their key role in facilitating efforts to reduce regional tensions. According to the prime minister, Pakistan’s leadership helped bring both sides to a temporary ceasefire, although achieving lasting peace remains the real challenge.
The prime minister urged the nation to pray for the success of ongoing talks, saying that successful negotiations could save countless innocent lives. He added that the leadership of both countries is currently in Islamabad on his invitation, calling it a moment of pride for Pakistan and the Muslim world.
Mr Sharif further stated that the government has already spent Rs129 billion on public relief measures and is committed to easing the burden of inflation on citizens.
He concluded by announcing that diesel prices have been reduced by Rs135 per litre and petrol by Rs12 per litre with immediate effect, attributing the cut to a decline in global oil prices.
