PESHAWAR: UN agencies, in partnership with the University of Agriculture, Peshawar, commemorated United Nations Day 2025 at the FAO Office premises, marking 80 years of the UN’s founding vision.

The event celebrated a shared global commitment to peace, development, and human rights under the theme: “Better Together: 80 Years and More for Peace, Development, and Human Rights.”

The commemoration brought together representatives from various UN agencies, provincial government departments, academia, and students.

Participants reaffirmed their collective commitment to sustainable development and inclusion—particularly for marginalized communities, refugees, displaced populations, women and girls, and Persons with Disabilities across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The proceedings began with welcome remarks by the Officer In charge FAO Sub-Office KP, who highlighted the importance of sustainable livelihoods, and climate resilience in the province.

Following this, the acting Chair of the UN Provincial Programme Team reflected on the UN’s 80-year journey and the continued relevance of multilateral cooperation, emphasizing its role in delivering work under the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework.

Also, a powerful “UN Day Voices” segment followed, featuring UN staff sharing personal accounts of field experiences, including work with displaced communities, advocacy for women’s rights, support for refugees, and flood response operations.

The formal ceremony concluded with a cake-cutting segment, symbolizing 80 years of UN service and partnership with the people of Pakistan. In a symbolic gesture of renewal and hope, participants jointly planted saplings on the university premises, reinforcing their commitment to climate action.

UN agencies also hosted exhibition stalls displaying refugee-made handicrafts and program showcases, offering a glimpse into ongoing efforts in humanitarian response, early recovery, and self-reliance programming for Afghan refugees and vulnerable Pakistanis.

The UN Day 2025 celebration in Peshawar served as a powerful reminder that peace, inclusion, and sustainable development are only possible when no one is left behind.

The event reaffirmed the UN’s enduring partnership with the Government and people of Pakistan in advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), social inclusion, and environmental sustainability.
