UNITED NATIONS: The United Nations has imposed sanctions on 22 senior members of the Afghan Taliban, citing them as a serious threat to international peace and security.

The sanctions target top officials, including Interim Afghan Prime Minister Mohammad Hasan Akhund and Foreign Minister Sirajuddin Haqqani.

The UN Security Council stated that the Taliban regime in Afghanistan continues to oppress women and minority communities, restricting their social and economic freedoms. Human rights organizations, including the Human Rights Activists Alliance, have welcomed the UN’s strong measures.

The United Kingdom has also updated its own sanctions list in line with the Security Council’s decisions. The sanctions aim to hold the Taliban accountable for actions that violate global human rights standards and threaten regional stability.
