UNITED NATIONS: The United Nations has warned that terrorist groups are becoming increasingly skilled at using artificial intelligence (AI) and other advanced technologies to expand their operations.
Speaking at a conference of heads of counter-terrorism agencies from UN member states, Secretary-General António Guterres said terrorist organisations were adapting quickly to technological developments and using new tools to strengthen their activities worldwide.
He said modern technologies have made it easier for extremist groups to raise funds, spread propaganda and recruit new members.
Guterres stressed that the same technologies could also be used effectively to combat terrorism if the international community adopted a coordinated and responsible approach.
He urged member states to strengthen global cooperation to address the growing security challenges posed by the misuse of AI and emerging technologies by terrorist organisations.
