ISLAMABAD: Overseas Pakistanis can now bypass the lengthy and complicated process of transferring vehicle ownership, thanks to a new digital facility introduced by the Excise and Taxation Department Islamabad.
The initiative allows Pakistanis living abroad to complete vehicle transfers online through biometric verification using the Pak-ID mobile application.
Bilal Azam, Director of Excise Islamabad, explained that previously, Pakistanis residing overseas had to visit a Pakistani embassy for biometric verification after selling a vehicle. This verification then required authentication from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Pakistan, a process that was both time-consuming and cumbersome.
“By digitizing the entire process, we have made it significantly easier for overseas Pakistanis to sell their vehicles and for buyers to complete ownership transfers efficiently,” he said.
Under the new system, overseas Pakistanis can download the Pak-ID app on their mobile devices and verify their identity through fingerprints from anywhere in the world. Buyers are advised to ensure they have the seller’s verified biometric details along with the transfer letter to avoid any complications.
The move is expected to save both time and money, offering a major convenience to overseas Pakistanis. In the past, the difficulties involved in transferring ownership often forced overseas Pakistanis to sell their vehicles at lower prices.
