ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) has released its latest weekly inflation report, showing that the country’s inflation increased by 0.22% over the past week.
According to the report, the annual inflation rate now stands at 5.03%.
The PBS data reveals that during the week, prices of 20 essential items increased, 6 items became cheaper, while 25 items remained stable. Among the commodities that became more expensive, onions saw the highest increase, rising by 5.62%.
Other notable price hikes included energy savers (up 2.51%), eggs (up 2.38%), and sugar (up 2.04%). Prices of cooking oil, garlic, and beef also recorded upward trends.
Meanwhile, chicken prices fell by 2.51% and rice by 1.19%, while pulses, wheat flour, and LPG also saw price reductions.
According to the report, the average price of tomatoes across the country reached Rs. 329.45 per kilogram, compared to Rs. 328.53 per kilogram last week. The highest recorded tomato price stood at Rs. 400 per kilogram.
