In a petition filed by the Human Rights Commission, PFUJ and well-known journalists, the federation has been made a party through the Secretary Information and PEMRA.
The petition said that unconstitutional and illegal restrictions have been imposed on electronic media by PEMRA. The orders issued by PEMRA are in conflict with Article 19A of the Constitution.
Article 19 of the Constitution provides freedom of expression to the citizens. According to the text of the petition, the court should determine the scope of information provided to the citizens.
The court should state whether the statement of a fugitive and a fugitive falls under the category of information. Doesn’t a fugitive have the right to freedom of expression under Article 19?
The petition seeks that the court declare the PEMRA order dated October 1 illegal and restrain the parties from issuing such orders in future.
Among the journalists who have filed petitions against the PEMRA decision are Najam Sethi, Asma Shirazi, Saleem Safi, Naseem Zehra, Gharida Farooqi, Mansoor Ali Khan, Amber Shamsi, Mahamal Sarfaraz, Syed Ejaz Haider, Zahid Hussain, Maneza Jahangir, Ghazi Salahuddin and others Included.
