BEIJING: As President Asif Ali Zardari continues his state visit to China, the two countries have signed a number of agreements, including on increasing cement production, renewable energy and coal gasification in Pakistan.
The signing ceremony of the memorandums of understanding between Pakistan and China on increasing cement production by 5,000 tons per day, cooperation on various renewable energy projects in Pakistan, coal gasification and urea production plant projects was held in Beijing.
The ceremony was attended by President Asif Ali Zardari, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, Sharjeel Memon and Senator Salim Mandviwala.
Earlier, President Zardari met Chinese Premier Li Keqiang and discussed bilateral relations and promotion of cooperation in various fields. The two leaders also discussed the second phase of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
In a meeting with the Chinese President Xi Jinping yesterday, Zardari said that first we are allies of China, then anyone else. China and Pakistan have one border and the rest are thousands of kilometers away.
Chinese President Xi said Pakistan and China are all-weather strategic partners.
A joint declaration of understanding between Pakistan and China has also been issued in which China has reiterated its full support for Pakistan’s stability, development and prosperity.
The joint statement said that the CPEC will be upgraded to a modern development corridor, encouraging Chinese investment in special economic zones in Pakistan.
