A new era in Pak-Afghan relations has begun,with Prime Minister Imran Khan one day visit to a brother nation Afghanistan on Thursday, while Pakistan said in a joint statement issued that, the intelligence agencies of the two countries will set up a framework for mutual co-operation in peace, though Pak adding that “key points on the Afghan reconciliation process will be exchanged with Afghanistan on a regular basis.”
According to the statement, the two countries reaffirmed their commitment to respect each other’s integrity. There are opportunities for Pakistan in multilateral relations with other friendly countries of Afghanistan, not a threat.
The territories of the two countries will never be used against each other, Pakistan and Afghanistan will identify the enemies of peace and will take action against them, as per the joint statement.
According to the declaration, bilateral public, business, governmental and security ties will be enhanced. Safe, dignified and timely repatriation of Afghan refugees will be ensured and a joint document for repatriation of refugees will be proposed by January 1, 2021.
This was Prime Minister Imran Khan’s first visit to Kabul at the invitation of Afghan President Ashraf Ghani.
In a one-on-one meeting with the Afghan President, PM Imran said that there is no military solution to the conflict in Afghanistan, dialogue is the only way. Pakistan will respect the decisions of Afghans in the peace process and support a peaceful, stable and prosperous Afghanistan.
The two leaders also agreed to form committees to expedite security and peace issues, and to expedite infrastructure and energy projects.
Furthermore, the PM invited President Ashraf Ghani to visit Pakistan.
