Senate chairman, speakers want increase in their perks

Claim that more privileges and powers for them will strengthen parliament.

ISLAMABAD: Chairman of the Senate of Pakistan, speakers of the National Assembly and all provincial assemblies at a meeting held in Islamabad among other things decided to work for increasing their own perks and privileges as well as powers.

The meeting was also attended by speakers of the legislative assemblies of Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.

They agreed to get law passed from the Senate and National and provincial assemblies to increase their salaries, allowances and perks and privileges.

They said that like the Senate chairman who becomes the acting president in the absence of the president, the speakers of the National Assembly and provincial assemblies should become the acting prime minister and acting chief ministers.

The chairman of the Senate and speakers of the assemblies claimed that increasing their pays and allowances and powers would strengthen parliament for best public interest.

The speakers of the provincial assemblies demanded that their family members should also have blue passports like the families of the chairman Senate and speaker National Assembly.

The speakers of the provincial assemblies said that law should be formulated to bring their salaries at a par with those of the judges of the high courts and the salaries should be exempted from taxes.
