ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has ordered authorities concerned to start process for legislation to pave way for confiscation of the properties of those involved in human smuggling.

PM Shehbaz Sharif also said that the government will approach foreign countries for handing over of those involved in human smuggling from Pakistan. He said that stricter measures were needed to eliminate human smuggling which was tarnishing the image of Pakistan besides robbing poor people of their hard-earned money and causing death to young people seeking greener pastures abroad.

Besides legislation to tighten the noose around the agents involved in human smuggling, the screening at all airports also need to be further tightened, the prime minister told a meeting held to discuss the issue.

The prime minister also ordered action against black sheep in the Federal Investigation Agency who have been involved in helping the agents in human smuggling. These elements deserve no leniency, he added.

It may be mentioned here that hundreds of Pakistanis have died in shipwrecks and other incidents while illegally trying to reach Europe or other countries. Hundreds others are languishing in jails in different countries and many have been deported back to Pakistan.
