Baldia factory tragedy: Arrest of accused through Interpol ordered

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court has ordered the government to approach Interpol for the extradition of Hamad Siddiqui, the fugitive accused in the Baldia factory tragedy, in which 250 people lost their lives in 2012.

The Sindh High Court heard the case of the handing over of the Baladiya factory accused in which the concerned officials appeared before the court.

During the hearing, the Interior and Foreign Departments submitted a report in the case of extradition of Hamad Siddiqui, and other accused who had fled to Dubai.

The deputy attorney general told the court that Taqi Haider, Hamad Siddiqui and Khurram Nisar were absconding. The court summoned the focal person of the Home Department related to fugitive accused Khurram Nisar.

Later, the Sindh High Court postponed the hearing of the case till April 22, ordering to approach the Interpol for the extradition of Hamad Siddiqui, the fugitive accused in the tragedy Baldia Factory.

The factory in Karachi’s Baldia Town was set on fire on September 11, 2012, in which more than 250 people lost their lives. It is alleged that some elements belonging to a political party deliberately set the factory on fire after its owners refused to pay them Bhata.
