JERUSALEM: Al-Aqsa Mosque in occupied Jerusalem has been reopened to worshippers after remaining closed for 40 days, following heightened tensions in the region.

Israeli authorities had closed the mosque after military escalation involving Iran. With its reopening, a large number of worshippers gathered at the holy site to offer prayers.

According to Israeli police, the site has been reopened under new security guidelines. However, heavy security deployment remains in place, with hundreds of police officers and border guards stationed around the mosque compound and the Old City.

Despite the reopening, restrictions on Palestinian worshippers continue, with limited access being granted to local residents. In contrast, Israeli authorities have reportedly allowed greater access and extended visiting hours for Jewish settlers’ entry to the compound.

The situation at the site remains tense, with security measures and access limitations still in effect.
