Federal Cabinet reshuffled – Sheikh Rashid made Federal Minister for Home Affairs

ISLAMABAD: The federal cabinet has once again undergone a major reshuffle, with Sheikh Rashid Ahmed as the federal interior minister and Azam Khan Swati as the railway minister.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) ally Sheikh Rashid Ahmed has been given important government responsibilities. Prime Minister Imran Khan has once again reshuffled his team and appointed Sheikh Rashid Ahmed as Federal Minister for Home Affairs, replacing him with Azam Khan Swati. The portfolio of the Ministry of Railways has been assigned.

Brigadier (retd) Ijaz Shah has been appointed as Federal Minister for Counter Narcotics, while, Dr. Abdul Hafeez Sheikh has been appointed as Federal Minister for Finance. He has taken his team into confidence.

Sheikh Rashid Ahmed first became the Minister of Industry in the Nawaz Sharif Cabinet in 1991 and also held the Ministry of Culture. In Nawaz Sharif’s second term, Sheikh Rashid was given the portfolios of sports, culture, tourism, youth affairs, labor and manpower and overseas Pakistanis.

Sheikh Rashid was the Information Minister of Prime Minister Jamali in 2002 and then also the Minister of Railways and Information Minister in Shaukat Aziz’s cabinet. Imran Khan, who became an ally of PTI, made Sheikh Rashid Railway Minister and now Federal Interior Minister in 2018. This is Sheikh Rashid’s 15th ministry in his political journey.
