NEW YORK: Captain Mobeen Yasin, the first Kashmiri-American in the New York Police Department (NYPD), has been appointed as the commanding officer of the 72nd police station in Brooklyn.
Captain Yasin came to the United States with his father Muhammad Yasin from Mirpur, Azad Kashmir, in 1991 at the age of five.
In 2009, he joined the NYPD as an officer and by dint of his hard work and excellent performance became the first Kashmiri-American commanding officer.
His services and new appointment were appreciated at a reception held in honor of top police officers by Chinese-American community leader, Louis Lu.
Speaking on the occasion, Captain Yasin assured the Chinese-American community as well as the other communities living within the limits of his police station that he would do his best to provide professional services to them.
The Kashmiri and Pakistani American community of New York also congratulated Captain Yasin on his appointment as the commanding officer.
It may be mentioned here that Pakistani-American Deputy Inspector Ashraf Jehangir and Captain Waheed Akhtar are also currently commanding officers in the New York Police Department.
Adeel Rana is the first Pakistani-American to reach the rank of inspector. There are more than 100 Pakistani-American police officers serving in the New York Police Department.
