The 47th meeting of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers was held in Niamey, the capital of Nigeria. The OIC foreign ministers meeting passed a unanimous resolution for a just solution to the Kashmir issue. 57 Islamic countries have rejected all steps taken by India on August 5, 2019 and demanded that the Modi government repeal the domicile laws in Jammu and Kashmir.
The OIC resolution called on India to repeal the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Order 2020 and the Jammu and Kashmir Grant of Domicile Certificate Rules 2020 and withdraw the amendments to land ownership. The OIC also strongly condemned the human rights violations of the occupying Indian forces.
The resolution said that the inhumane crimes committed by the Indian forces against the people of occupied Kashmir and state terrorism were regrettable. Elections or the political process cannot be a substitute for a referendum under any foreign occupation. Kashmiris should be given the right to vote freely under UN Security Council resolutions.
The OIC condemned the fake encounters, extrajudicial killings and burning of property and demanded an immediate end to the use of ballot guns against unarmed Kashmiris. The OIC also ratified the Joint Declarations of the Contact Group for Jammu and Kashmir dated September 25 and June 22, 2020.
The resolution called on India to allow the OIC’s Special Representative for Jammu and Kashmir and Fact-Finding Mission to visit the Occupied Territories in fulfillment of its international human rights obligations. The resolution clarified that the Kashmir issue is of utmost importance to the Muslim Ummah and the international community should re-examine its relations with India.
