MUZAFFARABAD: In Azad Kashmir’s Mirpur district, several residential structures have collapsed following significant land subsidence in areas adjacent to Mangla Dam.

According to local officials, at least 16 houses have sunk, while many others have developed visible cracks as the ground continues to shift and deteriorate.

The Commissioner of Mirpur Division confirmed that Potha Bainsi village, which lies on the banks of Mangla Dam, has been particularly hard hit. The rising water level in the dam is causing the surrounding land to steadily sink, leading to severe structural damage to homes and posing serious risks to the local community.

Authorities have moved residents from the affected areas to safer locations as a precautionary measure to prevent injuries or further loss of life.

Emergency teams and local administration are closely monitoring the situation to assess ongoing damage, support displaced families, and mitigate the risk of additional subsidence.

The incident has raised concerns about the impact of fluctuating water levels and soil erosion around Mangla Dam, one of the largest water reservoirs in the region, and officials are expected to conduct detailed geological assessments in the coming days.
