ISTANBUL: Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar along with his counterparts from various Arab and Islamic nations discussed urgent measures for a permanent ceasefire and sustainable peace in Gaza at a diplomatic meeting in Istanbul.
The meeting underscored the immediate need for humanitarian aid to reach the besieged Palestinian population, who have endured severe hardship amidst ongoing conflict.
The meeting was a critical platform for dialogue on the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, with the ministers agreeing on a coordinated approach to facilitate emergency relief and support reconstruction efforts.
In parallel, they voiced strong condemnation of Israel’s repeated violations of ceasefire agreements, calling for the swift cessation of military actions and for Israel’s withdrawal from the occupied Palestinian territories.
Foreign Minister Dar also held a productive bilateral meeting with his Turkish counterpart, Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu.
According to a statement from Pakistan’s Foreign Office, spokesperson Tahir Andrabi confirmed that the two leaders reaffirmed their unwavering support for the Palestinian cause and discussed ways to amplify their collective efforts. The leaders highlighted the necessity of establishing a viable and sovereign Palestinian state and emphasized that the status of Jerusalem remains a core issue in the peace process.
Pakistan, which has consistently championed the Palestinian cause on the global stage, reiterated its commitment to a two-state solution. The country reaffirmed its long-standing position that the future Palestinian state must be based on the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, as outlined in United Nations and OIC resolutions. Pakistan’s firm stance has earned the nation significant respect among countries advocating for Palestinian sovereignty.
Additionally, the meeting was an opportunity to further strengthen the longstanding bilateral ties between Pakistan and Turkey. Both countries have maintained close cooperation on a wide range of issues, including defense, trade, and regional security.
In their talks, Minister Dar and Minister Çavuşoğlu expressed satisfaction with the positive trajectory of their relationship and pledged to deepen collaboration, particularly in the political, economic, and defense sectors. They also agreed to continue regular communication on regional and international matters, underscoring their shared commitment to peace and stability in the broader Middle East.
Both the ministers emphasized that the ongoing situation in Gaza requires immediate and concerted efforts from the international community, stressing the need for a comprehensive peace plan that addresses both the humanitarian crisis and the broader political issues. The leaders agreed that the resolution of the Palestinian issue is integral not only to regional stability but also to the future of global peace and security.
