ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has announced a reduction in the passing marks for the Medical and Dental College Admission Test (MDCAT) in order to fill vacant seats in medical and dental colleges.

According to an official statement, the passing percentage for MBBS programmes has been reduced from 55% to 52%, while for BDS programmes it has been lowered from 50% to 47%.

The council stated that the decision includes a 3% relaxation in passing criteria, aimed at ensuring that unfilled seats in medical and dental institutions are occupied.

PMDC has directed all universities to complete their admission process by April 15, 2026. It emphasized that already eligible candidates should be given priority, and the relaxed criteria will only apply if seats remain vacant.

The notification also instructed private medical institutions to reduce fees for deserving students and strictly maintain merit and transparency in admissions.

PMDC warned that strict action will be taken against institutions charging fees beyond the approved limits.
