ISLAMABAD: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has approved an increase in electricity tariffs under the monthly fuel adjustment mechanism, placing an additional burden of Rs12.45 billion on consumers across the country.
According to an official notification, electricity prices have been raised by Rs1.42 per unit for February’s fuel cost adjustment. The increase will be reflected in consumers’ electricity bills for April.
NEPRA stated that the decision has been implemented in line with government policy guidelines and will also apply to K-Electric consumers.
However, the tariff hike will not apply to lifeline consumers and electric vehicle charging stations.
The regulator had reserved its decision after a hearing on the February adjustment. Previously, electricity prices were increased by Rs1.63 per unit under the January fuel adjustment.
Officials say the latest increase will collectively add a financial burden of Rs12.45 billion on power consumers nationwide.
