WASHINGTON: Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States Rizwan Saeed Sheikh has said that a negotiation process conducted without external pressure is more likely to lead to a decisive outcome.
In an interview with US media, the envoy highlighted Pakistan’s positive diplomatic role in facilitating the recent ceasefire between the United States and Iran. He said Pakistan’s efforts over the past weeks contributed to the successful announcement of a ceasefire and the opening of dialogue.
“This is a victory of diplomacy and dialogue,” he said, adding that Pakistan has consistently prioritized constructive engagement in its foreign policy.
The ambassador expressed gratitude to all parties for placing trust in Pakistan’s role and acknowledged the contributions of countries including Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, Egypt, Qatar, and China in supporting the ceasefire process.
He noted that China had, from the outset, urged restraint and diplomacy, while Pakistan’s top leadership remained directly involved in the efforts. He emphasized that successful negotiations require confidentiality and a lack of external pressure.
Ambassador Sheikh clarified that the final decisions rest with the concerned parties, while Pakistan is acting as a facilitator in good faith.
He added that peace and stability in the region would have positive implications not only for the Gulf but also for global politics and the economy.
