Nationwide anti-polio campaign starts

Arrangements made for security of polio teams with deployment of security personnel with them.

ISLAMABAD: A nationwide campaign to administer drops to children under the age of five years is starting on Monday.

In Sindh, the drive will continue for a week during which over 80,000 workers will go door to door to administer vaccine to over 10 million children in 30 districts of the province.

In the province of KP, over 7400,000 children will be covered by over 32,000 teams. In Balochistan, a seven day anti–polio drive will begin on Monday.

Syed Zahid Shah, the coordinator for the Emergency Operation Center of Balochistan, said over 2.5 million children would be administered anti-polio drops during the campaign.  Over 11,000 teams have been constituted for this purpose, he added.

Meanwhile, a five-day anti-polio campaign will begin in AJK on Monday. Over 700,000 children up to five years of age will be administered anti-polio vaccine drops for which 4,000  mobile teams have been constituted to administer vaccine drops to children.

The administration in each of the districts across the country have made arrangements for security of the polio teams and deployed with them personnel of police and other law enforcement agencies.
