No progress made on Pak-Afghan transit and preferential trade during 3-day meeting

No progress was made on the transit trade and preferential trade agreement between Pakistan and Afghanistan. Even after the three-day meeting between the two countries, the renewal of the transit trade agreement and the preferential trade agreement could not be finalized.

According to sources, the renewal of the Pak-Afghan Transit Trade Agreement and the Preferential Trade Agreement could not be finalized at the three-day meeting of the Afghanistan-Pakistan Transit Trade Coordination Authority in Islamabad.

According to a statement released by the Ministry of Commerce, the two countries have agreed to continue talks for the renewal of the Pak-Afghan Transit Trade Agreement. However, the date and venue of the next meeting in this regard will be decided later. The proposed draft agreement was reviewed in detail by both countries.

According to the statement, a three-day meeting of the Pak-Afghan Transit Trade Coordination Authority was held in Islamabad from December 28 to 30, during which preferential trade agreements and MoUs for cooperation in the railway sector were also discussed. Afghan delegation also called on the Prime Minister of Pakistan and the Speaker of the National Assembly.
