Roads reopened, mobile phone services restored in Islamabad
Motorway from Islamabad to Peshawar and Lahore also opened, say police.
ISLAMABAD: After about three days, routine life is back to normality in the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi on Sunday afternoon.
The blocked roads including Murree Road and Peshawar Road along with its slip roads were opened by removing containers in the morning.
The capital administration later also restored traffic on almost all roads, including the expressway and Kashmir Highway. However, containers are still present on the roadsides. Most of the roads are open for passage of one vehicle at a time.
The roads along with all the entry and exit points of the federal capital were blocked after the PTI announced to hold a protest at D Chowk in Islamabad on Friday.
The government on Saturday called in the army for security of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation’s summit in Islamabad on Oct 15-16. After reaching D Chowk, the protesters were dispersed by law enforcement agencies and the Chief Minister of KP Ali Amin Gandapur was taken into custody.
