Russia keen to help Pakistan increase agri product: speaker

ISLAMABAD: Speaker of the Federation Council of Russian Federal Assembly Valentina Matvienko who reached Islamabad on a three-day official visit of Pakistan on Sunday addressed a special sitting of the Senate on Monday.

The Russian speaker is visiting Pakistan on the invitation of Senate  Chairman Yousuf Raza Gillani.

The Russian speaker while addressing the Senate sitting said that her country was is keen to enhance supplies of mineral fertilizers, modern agriculture machines and share technology with Pakistan to increase its agriculture productivity, said She stated this while addressing a special sitting of the Senate.

She said that relationship between Russia and Pakistan was  based on mutually beneficial and respectful grounds. She expressed her desire to enhance cooperation with Pakistan in diverse fields, including economy, trade and energy. 

Earlier in the day, the Russian speaker held a meeting with Senate Chairman Yousuf Raza Gillani. She said Russia will enhance bilateral cooperation with Pakistan in diverse fields including trade, investment and diplomacy.

The Russian speaker and the Senate chairman discussed issues related to promotion of diplomatic, economic, commercial and parliamentary relations between the two countries.

Mr Gillani said Valentina Matviyenko’s visit to Pakistan will further enhance relations between the two countries. He appreciated Russia’s support to Pakistan for improvements in infrastructural development and oil and gas sectors of Pakistan.
