SC dismisse all review petitions against gas cess decision

ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court of Pakistan has dismissed all the review petitions filed against the decision of the Gas Infrastructure Development Cess case. The court directed that the arrears be collected in 60 equal installments instead of 24.

During the hearing, Salman Akram Raja, counsel for the private company, took a stand that the government should use the Rs 295 billion obtained from the companies before making further recovery.

On that, Justice Mansoor Ali Shah asked the Additional Attorney General not to put so much burden on the industry. Starting, a report on all the steps will be submitted to the court.

However, Justice Faisal Arab inquired whether the gas produced belonged to the federation or to the provinces. Lawyer Naeem Bukhari said that according to the law, the people of the area have the first right to the source of gas.

To date, Balochistan has not been able to get the gas that is leaking from there. After hearing the arguments, the court rejected all the review petitions and issued an order.
