15 more children die of pneumonia in Punjab

Health department says over 400 children died of disease so far this year.

LAHORE: There seems no respite from pneumonia cases in Punjab with health department officials reporting that 15 more children died of the disease in the last 24 hours in the province.

The health department said that during the last 24 hours, 304 new cases were reported from different parts of the province while Lahore reported 102 cases.

According to the officials, as many as 405 children have died of pneumonia in the province so far in the current year while the total number of cases this season stood at over 29,600.

They said the government should take emergency measures to contain the cases in the province. Experts said that the prolonged dry spell and cold wave exasperated the cases this year. They expressed the hope that with the change in the weather the cases would decrease.
