ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s Adviser on Political Affairs Rana Sanaullah has said that following the 27th Amendment, a 28th Constitutional Amendment is also being prepared.
Speaking on a private TV program alongside PTI Senator Ali Zafar, Rana Sanaullah said that the upcoming amendment will focus on matters related to education, population, curriculum, and local government systems.
He explained that during the Senate vote on the 27th Amendment, the government had three senators on reserve and held around 67 to 68 votes in total. However, Senator Irfan Siddiqui could not cast his vote due to illness, while the absence of three other senators remained unexplained.
Rana Sanaullah added that the opposition did not raise any objections to any specific section or clause of the 27th Amendment.
He questioned whether the president did not already enjoy immunity under the constitution, emphasizing that such immunity would only cease if the president held another public office.
The adviser’s remarks come amid ongoing political debate about recent constitutional changes and discussions on further reforms aimed at strengthening local governance and educational policy frameworks in Pakistan.
