Akhtar Hayat Gandapur says Afghan nationals are also involved in extortion cases.

PESHAWAR: Inspector General of Police Khyber Pakthunkhwa Akhtar Hayat Gandapur has said that Afghan nationals were found involved in 75 percent of suicide attacks in different parts of the province.

In an interview with a TV channel, he said the involvement of the Afghan nationals in the terror acts was confirmed through DNA and other evidence.

He added that the suicide attackers who targetted Ali Masjid Bara, Hangu, Bajaur and Police Lines Peshawar were all Afghan nationals.

In the current year, as many as 76 cases of extortion of money from traders were reported to the police. Of these, 49 cases have been traced in which Afghan nationals along with locals were involved, he added.

The IGP also said that suspects involved in calling businessmen and traders demanding money were arrrested from Chitral, Mohmand and Bajaur.

It may be mentioned here that the government has announced the deadline of November 1 for all illegal Afghan nationals living in Pakistan to leave and go back to their country.

Under a plan, over 1.1 million Afghans living in the country illegally will be deported if they did not go back by the end of the deadline.

However, the Afghan regime as well as the UN refugee agency has expressed their concerns over the move of Pakistan and said it would create a humanitarian crisis.
