Bangladesh’s Parliament Election Campaign to End Today

DHAKA: The election campaign for Bangladesh’s 13th National Parliament elections and the nationwide referendum will conclude today, 48 hours ahead of polling day, according to local media reports.

The election campaign, which began on January 22, will officially end today before voting scheduled for Thursday, February 12.

Polling for both the parliamentary elections and the referendum will be held simultaneously across 299 constituencies throughout Bangladesh. Voting will take place from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. using ballot papers placed in transparent ballot boxes.

A total of 51 political parties are participating in the elections, with 2,034 candidates contesting seats in the National Parliament. Among them, 275 are independent candidates.

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has fielded the highest number of candidates, with 291 contestants running under its party symbol of rice sheaf.

The Islamic Movement Bangladesh is the second-largest contender, with 258 candidates contesting on the hand fan symbol.

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has nominated 229 candidates using the scales symbol, while the Jatiya Party has fielded 198 candidates contesting under the plough symbol.

Additionally, the Jatiya Nagarik Party (NCP) has 32 candidates contesting on the leaf-and-bud symbol.

Among independent candidates, 76 are contesting using the football symbol.
